The Whitefish High School Swim Board is a non-profit 501(c)(3) volunteer organization composed of parents, coaches, and others in the community who are interested in supporting the Whitefish Swim program. With the understanding that neither girls and boys swimming are school funded sports, our mission is to raise funds for all aspects of the program including equipment, uniforms, travel, coach salaries, pool rental, meet fees, and other related expenses. Our goal is to support the athletes, their coaches, and the administration in order to allow the Whitefish Swim teams to achieve their full potential.
Help fund WHS swimming
It costs between $25K and $30K each year to fund two high school swim teams–boys and girls. To meet these needs parents, coaches, students, and the community contribute through several fund raising efforts:
- Each high school swimmer sells raffle tickets.
- Working concessions at high school sporting events.
- Applying for grants.
- Our annual ‘flocking’ event where local businesses are solicited for donations by placing a flock of pink flamingos at their business along with a ransom note.
- Donations from individual community members.
We appreciate all of our supporters! If you wish to financially support the Whitefish High School swim team you can donate by:
- Clicking on the Donate button above and entering your credit card or bank account information.
- Our preferred method: write a check to the ‘Whitefish Swim Team’ and mail it to PO Box 423, Whitefish, MT 59937, or hand it to one of the board members.

Team history
The Whitefish High School swim teams have been in existence since the formation of a combined Columbia Falls and Whitefish High School swim board in 2014, when they were denied initial funding by their school districts. Since that time, both the boys and girls swim teams have competed every year with impressive consistency and commitment. The boys team has placed in the top three for six seasons at the State championship meet with one championship in 2019/20. The girls team has placed in the top three for six seasons with two championships in 2016/17 and 2019/20. During the 2023/24 season, the WHS swimmers did exceptionally well, taking 15 swimmers to the state meet. Almost all of the swimmers achieved a personal best time and every swimmer on the team had an amazing season. The boys and girls teams both placed fourth at the 2024 State Swim Meet.
In 2022, Columbia Falls swimming was funded by their school district while the Whitefish swim teams continued to raise funding through their own independent board. District funding of the Columbia Falls swim teams had a significant impact on the Whitefish teams. Expenses previously shared are now the full responsibility of the Whitefish team with a smaller pool of parents to do the fundraising. To raise the funds required to run the program, the board has relied on four main sources of funds including our “flocking” event which requests donations from local businesses and community members, working fall sports concessions, $300 in raffle ticket sales required of each swimmer, and Whitefish Community Foundation grants. The swim programs cost approximately $25,000 – $30,000 to fund each year.
Each year we are hopeful that the school district will be able to fund the swim program. Until then we will continue to raise funds through the support of the community and local businesses.
